Seeking Partners

It takes a village…

Expanding Climate Stewards across Washington

WSU Cougar Head Logo

The Climate Stewards program integrates on-line learning with classroom education and field learning experiences.

While the core of the educational instruction is on-line, we believe that the program is most effective with classroom and field events. It is through these experiences that the adult learners both cement their knowledge and begin to form the relationships and interpersonal networks that leads to meaningful climate progress in their communities.

WSU Extension would like to expand the reach of Climate Stewards to many counties in Washington. To accomplish that, we are seeking partners who can help us expand. Please read on to learn how you can help us grow.

Special Thanks

To the scientists and educators of the Washington State Climate Office (WASCO). With their extensive assistance and vast knowledge of Washington’s climate challenges we have customized the Climate Stewards units on climate & earth sciences and Washington ecosystems to focus on the challenges in our state.

With WASCO’s help, our goal of making this course uniquely Washington’s has been realized.

Ways to accelerate:

Host a Climate Stewards course:

We want to expand the WSU Climate Stewards Certificate Program into more counties and are especially interested in increasing our footprint within large counties. If your organization is environmentally focused and of a scale where you believe your members could fill an entire class (minimum 25 people), then let’s discuss how we can tailor the Climate Stewards education to fit your needs. Contact Patricia Townsend, Ph.D. for more information.

Field Learning Experiences

If you or someone you know could deliver a classroom presentation that aligns with the Climate Stewards educational units and/or could host a tour of aligned with our Field Learning Experiences, please reach out. These are key components to expanding into your county and we are interested in building the best ‘roster’ possible in every county in which we offer a class.

Funding:

Expansion requires adequate funding. Currently the funding environment for education relating to climate change is especially challenging. If you would like to help out with funding, please donate here:
